How the accused was nabbed
Hanif had phoned the police around 11.30 pm on Saturday, Kulpahar circle officer (CO) Aniruddh Singh told news agency PTI. He told the police that his wife, Manisha Mansoori aged 27, was found dead in the Bijrari village under the Panwari police station in Mahoba district.
The officer also stated that a team of police officers found evidence of injuries to the woman's head and neck that were caused by a sharp-edged object. When investigators questioned him, he told them a different version of the story several times, so the police included him in the list of suspects.
The case unraveled when a later statement from the couple's 5-year-old son accused his father of being intoxicated during the killing and said that he had tried to beat his mother several times with a sickle, which ultimately caused her death, the circle officer reported.
According to the police, the victim was of about eight months gestation and the accused was an alcoholic.

Wife killed for denying alcohol
A man in Rajasthan's Jhunjhunu allegedly beat his wife to death and buried her body in an iron trunk when she refused to give him money for liquor last week, in an unrelated incident.
On July 18, the incident took place in the village of “Agwana Khurd” within the jurisdiction of Surajgarh police station but did not emerge until four days later, when there was a foul smell emanating from the trunk.

The accused, whose name has been given as Krishna Kumar Jat, 40, had an altercation with his wife, Sulochana, 34, on alcohol money last Saturday, Station House Officer Ram Singh Yadav said.
"When the woman refused to give money, the accused allegedly beat her brutally, leading to her death," he said.
After the smell started to become bad after a couple of days, the accused told one of his acquaintances who made a report with the police. "The body was found inside a locked trunk and has been kept in the mortuary. The accused has been detained and is being questioned," the officer said.
The couple's son, 16, was not at home during the incident, the police said. When he returned, the accused misled him by saying that his mother had gone somewhere. The accused has confessed to the murder in the police interrogation, but the manner and weapon used in the murder have not yet been determined, police said.
"The exact cause of death will be confirmed after post-mortem and forensic reports," Yadav said.
The relationship between the couple was registered in 2009. Police said it was still working on the case.
